I was nervous to line up on the singlespeed for the first time. Every other ride on my sweet piece of handcrafted steel had been a nice solo cruisin up to Dog Lake or the Crest, sometimes in the dark. I didnt know what to expect or how my gearing would match up to race pace. Well I think I got the gearing right and had a decent day. I was sitting third wheel until we hit the first open dirt road and decided to kick it up a bit and took the lead. I caught a bunch of Experts before the DH. Bob was nice enough to let me roll by on the DH. The Spot was haulin ass. I didnt look back until I started the half lap and noticed I had some company and knew it was time to dig deep and that I did. The legs thought of cramping going over the rollers on the back side but luckly I was able to keep them at bay and hold onto my first win on the 1-speed.
My favorite part of the race was flying down BBQ alley with 30-40 kids screaming and yelling and giving them all high fives as they extended there hands over the fence. Something about a crowd that gets me excited and makes me feel like a rock star.
