Bikepacking 101

As Carl and I finally arrived to our start location in Spanish Fork Canyon, got the bikes packed up, and clad ourselves in tight fitting lycra cycling clothes we looked at each other and said,"we are doing this".  Yes another adventure of Ted and Carl. This time our vehicle of choice was a Mountain Bike and our travel plans were not as planned as in previous RRAMU adventures. We were both testing new equipment and a new way to cover miles with a couple days worth of survival gear. This time we are at high elevation and on dirt, without semi trucks buzzing us and the hot summer asphalt baking our skin.

Within minutes we both knew this was THE way to tour on a bicycle. Both of use being very partial to the dirt, but never venturing on a touring trip on our favorite rigs. Even with some scary thunder storms that ended our first days journey a bit early the trip was a success. After taking shelter during an intense storm at 8500ft we decided to make camp and go attempt our luck at catching fish. We got 2 small trout that Carl enjoyed after cooking over the fire.

All equipment held up great and we got some good ideas for our next trip and how to better pack.

I belong in the mountains and have a hard time leaving them to come back to my 9-5 prison. Such is life, at least I can escape my prison occcasionally
