The got the usual nice call up based on me not missing a race this year, so I get a good start and soon Sam, Reed, Ali, Alex and I get a gap on the group. It was a different race without Bart there and I am sure the rest of the group would agree. We proceeded to attack each other for 3 or 4 laps until we come into the gravel road and I decide to keep the pace high and get on the front. No more than 5 seconds later I hear a crash behind me and decide to give it some gas. At this point I am way off the front, alone at the State Championship race, "this is not happening" went through my mind several times. Eventually Sam made his way up to me and we worked together for a while. Sam is from Idaho so I knew I could still win the Utah State title if I could just hang with him and not screw it up. It took all I could to stay with Sam and with half a lap to go he left me in the dust. We had a big gap on 3rd so I kept plugging along and took second and the Utah Champ title. 2 in one day. Its still hard for me to believe. I still feel bad for stealing all the luck before the race.....

this is not happening
This photo really sums up the day, my 2 older girls yelling and ringing cowbells. Me smiling because I am having so much fun and love to see them each lap. That is what cross is about. Family and fun.
So I decided to experiment with racing the singlespeed class before the A group for a warm up. I think it worked. The singlespeed class has a much different feel to it than the A's. Much more laid back and less speed, mostly because you run out of gear to really hit speed. I moved through the pack and settled in with Flynn and we rode together to the line. I decided I needed to be in front through the dirt and logs section. Flynn tried to come around me at the end but I picked it up a bit and was able to get the win. I then ran to my trailer and changed into my skinsuit...yeah trailer. I drove my uncles motorhome up to Ogden in preparation for the drive to Missouri in December for Nationals. Anyway as soon as I get changed its about time to line up for the A race.
