I think this picture really sums up my day. Not my best race for sure. The course conditions were tough and I think a little tougher on heavier guys like myself. I really belong with the Experts..
MTB racing is real. There is no sitting in, no drafting, no strategy, just balls out effort and the constant battle with yourself until you cross that line. Where you finish is how you stack up.

"MTB racing is real" yup! There is no hiding on a mtn bike ever or in cross.
I can usually put all the masters in the hurt bag on the road But Mtbing is way different
all I can say is Im glad I rode 40+ at sherwood
you could throw a blanket over the 5 of us for most the race, way fun
the one bad thing about mtb size really matters ,a buck forty looks like a big guy.
And to forrest you can't hide when your in the gutter with a cross wind at 27mph either
MTB racing is real... so is a VO2 max test or a marathon.
Time trials are real too...
too bad a high VO2 doesnt make you fast on the bike....
MTB is tough, why do you think we have 10-20 pros line up at the Icups and 40 or more I/II's at the local road events.
It's easy to get down on it I know. You are probably thinking I don't because I ride near the front now in the local scene but I have been doing it a long time and have slowly improved over the years and learned better ways to prepare myself. I have been waxed more times than anyone can imagine.
It's all about the long haul and slow steady improvement. As for what class to ride I don't know, but if the expert class provides a more competitive arena for improvement their is nothing wrong with that. Look at the guys in the pro class now on the local scene they have all been at it a long time.
I could go on but I don't want to clog up your blog with my opinions.
email me will chat, we can't lose you.
Don't listen to Bart... come on rico... the road bike is calling your name... "rico!!! ride me at bear lake!!! i miss the feel of your chamois on my saddle!!!"
Hear that?
