A little luck or no bad luck would have been nice today, same story as last week. Legs felt good but my rear tire didnt. I was an epic snow crash fest with every corner iced over. I think I would have prefered it a little more sloppy, the ice was super scetchy. I was having a good race and had just caught back on to Reed and Ali to battle for the second spot when I blew out my rear tire. Who flats in 6 inches of snow? I was able to ride it slowly to the pit because of the soft snow but when I got to the pit I couldnt find my bike. I had my dad bring it to the pit and never checked to see where it was so I lost some serious time looking feverishly. The A-train came past at that point and I never saw him again. Finished 5th. Excuses excuses I know....
I must say one thing, Bart G. is not of this world, I could tell he wanted to lap the field by the pace he was putting down. Amazing bike handling skills, just amazing!
One more race to go. Its been a fun first season for me, I will come back a better cross racer next year for sure. Its now on the top of my list.

Was the rear a tubie or a clincher? How much PSI do you run? Maybe you're just, um, fat.
I was running clinchers, Mud 2's set up tubeless at about 38 psi. Yeah not good for a fatty like myself. I got a little sideways trying to not crash and it "burped".
Ah hah!! Last year I tried every trick known to man in order to set my Mud 2s up tubeless -- extra velox tape, a full wrap bmx tube, stans strips, various pressures, etc., and I never figured it out. I would be going fine, then corner too hard or hit a rock or root and BURP, I'd lose air. I was using Ksyriums.
That said, Bart runs his tires tubeless and he doesn't seem to have problems. I've picked his brain several times, but I can't figure out why my setup burps and his doesn't.
I've given up on tubeless and just run heavy tubes with sealant in them.
I have raced and ridden them on a cross type course without any problems until Saturday. I think I am about 50 lbs to heavy. I used BMX tubes and Stans.
Bart is just light and very smooth
damn Rico that is some Murphy's Law you are dealing with lately. Good times though for sure. Hopefully we can both have clean races in O-Town this weekend.Just think only about 3 monthe til the first ICUP!
From my seat in the Big Stupid Truck™ (or Trooper, depending on who is parked on the finish line, Ellie or me), you've had a pretty awesome first season.
time for some Challenge Grifo or Dugast sew-ups. i'm definitely rolling sew-ups only next season. that's right, you heard it...NEXT SEASON.
later,
dh
Flahute- Thanks! I hope to battle for the top spot next year. DH you are right on the tires Dugast sounds really good
Dugast!?! After what you did to a cheaper Tufo? I would go clinchers.
......ps- fatty.
Kwilde, at least he wasn't diggin a snow fort, he who wears girls pants.
BTW, i run michi muds wiht thick tubes and sealant and mr tuffy's, i just don't see a weight penalty at wheeler farm.
Kevin does wear girl pants....I will be using the Specialized Airlock tubes with the Mud 2's from now on, it looks like they may come into play this weekend in O town.
You could be right about Ogden. I rode out there on Thanksgiving and between 4 of us, we had 5 flats. However, 3 of flats came on the bike path getting to Fort B. Hopefully, the rain and snow will make the goatheads go away. To be safe, I'll just ride where you don't.
Nice picture, I have forgetten what snow looks like.
You're right I do wear girl pants. I stole them from your mom's!!! I had to have something to offset my extreme manlyness. Otherwise you all would look like sissies.
Rico, you are going to kick butt this weekend... I have a feeling about this one, I think you're going to do very well!
p.s. Kevin didn't borrow girl pants from your mom, his wife was fed up with doing his laundry, so he had to borrow one of her pairs...
Nope. These ones are from Mike's mom. She goes to college with me.
You ARE going to rock it this weekend though. You better cause my plan is to punch it from the start and stick on your wheel as long as I can. Maybe Sohmy will even show up and wrench for us.
