XTERRA

Been thinking about signing up for the Xterra August 18th in Ogden. Even thought about running tonight....hmmmm running sucks! Running a 10k in dirt really sucks but the swim and bike would be a blast. It seems like the Xterra gets some major cash and sponsors unlike the road or mtb racing scene. How does a cyclist get fast for a 10k in less than 4 weeks time?

I took my girls for a hike this morning. I had good intentions of getting to Gobblers Knob via Alexander Basin but made the right decision to turn around after 5 minutes. The trail was straight up and full on loose rock and dust. I had #2 in the kidpack and #1 was sliding down the hill. So we headed up to Little Water for a short little hike. The prime directive was accomplished when they both fell asleep on the way home.

Anyone rollin with one of these?

ET,

I got a Garmin 305 a few weeks ago and really like it. It is a cool toy. With Training Peaks software, I can download the ride and look at it using Google Earth. You'll have fun with it.

Go for the Xterra. I came close to do it last year. I'll do it sometime, but I need some pool time so I survive the swim.

I used to do a mini-tri in November, which meant I had 3 or four weeks to get ready for a 5k run. All I did was intervals on Monday and a long run on Thursday. Probably not the best plan, but I almost broke 18 minutes on the 5k, which isn't too bad for a non-runner.

The best plan is to just survive the run and the swim, and make up a lot of time on the bike.

The best plan is to do a competitive swim, kill it on the bike, and then run away with the cash like you are robbing a bank.
That'll be $100.

Rico, I have the answer to your 10k. Do what I do. Get two Siberian Huskies, hook them to your waist, then you have no choice but to be fast.
